Oreo’s New “Hot Take” Within Chinese Market
This week, Oreo launched its two bold new flavors in the Chinese market. Are you ready for this? Okay, don’t say we didn’t warn you. Hot Chicken Wing and Wasabi Oreos are now a thing within the Chinese market. Yep, that’s right, your favorite sweet cookie just did a complete 180° shift in the opposite direction. These savory Oreos are a hot new take (no pun intended) on the usually sweet snack. This isn’t the first time Oreo has gone bold with its flavor strategy, as Fruit Punch and Firework were both tested the last few years as well. There’s no telling whether or not this will translate into the US market, our guess will be that it won’t. However, it is 2018 and we do continue to be surprised by consumers each and every day.

Paris Comes After Airbnb
Paris is cracking down on “serial renters” throughout the city. This week, it was announced that fines will now be implemented for the renters. Paris officials have publicly stated how much of an issue they have with the Airbnb brand in the past. According to Ian Brossat, the man in charge of city hall within Paris, Airbnb rentals “diminish the city’s housing stock, drive up rents, transform residential communities into tourist traps.” Lawmakers are nearing the adoption of a law which would make Airbnb liable for thousands of unregistered listings on its site. This is actually a relatively large issue for Airbnb. If passed, this would hurt Airbnb substantially. Paris is the world’s largest city and Airbnb’s biggest market. Airbnb is attempting to fight back against the ELAN (Evolution of Housing, Development, and the Internet) bill, stating they will automatically remove properties from their site once they have been rented for 120 nights within a year. Airbnb also began collecting tourism taxes this year for 23,000 French cities. Is it too little too late?
