Hy-Vee Reserves an Hour Every Day for High Risk Customers, Partners with DoorDash for Free Deliveries

Hy-Vee, Inc. revealed March 31 that it is reserving one hour of its Hy-Vee Aisles Online shopping time each day for those who are considered high risk. Starting Thursday, April 2, the reserved time slot will be 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., seven days a week, which is also the same in-store hours that is reserved for those who are age 60 or older, expecting mothers or anyone with an underlying condition that might make the person more susceptible to serious illness.

Those who are not part of this group have been asked by Hy-Vee to respect this hour that has been reserved for high-risk customers, and to wait until 8 a.m. and after to make their purchases.

In addition to Hy-Vee’s efforts to allow high-risk customers to more easily purchase their items, the company has also partnered with DoorDash to offer free delivery to these high-risk customers as well. In places where Hy-Vee Aisles Online deliveries are fulfilled by DoorDash, those high-risk customers can use the promo code “SPECIALDELIVERY” at the checkout when they place their order for delivery. This code is also available on the Hy-Vee website. The code can be used at any available Hy-Vee Aisles Online time slot and will cover up to 20,000 free deliveries.

Along with this change to online ordering, Hy-Vee has also previously started closing stores earlier than normal. This began March 19, where stores started closing at 8 p.m. every day. The shortened store day was to help employees have more time to clean and sanitize stores and restock all of the items that were in the highest demand.

The company has also closed all dining areas in their stores, restaurants and convenience stores, as well as all Hy-Vee Market Grille bars. Food service areas are still operating during their normal hours, but they are carry-out only. Customers are also still able to order pick-up or curbside services if a local Hy-Vee location has a Market Grille.

“This is an unprecedented time for all of us,” Said Hy-Vee in a press release on their website. “We've never dealt with anything like this before, and we know you haven't either. We appreciate your patience and your loyalty as we navigate these changing times. We are committed to doing all we can to keep our customers and employees healthy and safe, and to being the “helpful smile in every aisle” you need during this time. Thank you for being a Hy-Vee customer.”
