VentureBeat will announce the 20 startups selected to present on June 14th. The top 20 finalists will be invited to present at their conference on July 12-13.

This year’s MobileBeat conference will showcase innovative companies with the coolest mobile ideas for a 4G world. Each of the 20 companies will be given five minutes on stage to demonstrate their product and the winning companies will receive the Tesla award, named in honor of Nikola Tesla, the scientist who discovered early mobile communication. Last year’s judges’ vote winner was IQ Engine, featuring technology that matched an object recognition system to a Web server for recognizing objects in images captured by mobile phone users. Aloqa, winner of the people’s choice award, is a location-aware search and discovery system that works proactively, rather than requiring the user to perform searches.
