Laurie Goldstein, Senior PR Manager for Marriott International, told Loyalty 360 that the film “42” is important to her company to build a diverse Marriott Rewards membership.

“We saw this promotional partnership as an excellent way to reach a very important and diverse audience as well as rewarding our members with unique experiences beyond travel,” Goldstein said.

She said the Jackie Robinson story that is appealing to Marriott because it reflects the company’s values of diversity and inclusion.

“As a company, Marriott is committed to providing a world of opportunity for people of all backgrounds,” Goldstein said. “We were inspired by Jackie Robinson and his fight to find greater opportunities in the world. We also saw it as a great way to provide our members with unique and engaging experiences. We understand that our members represent a diverse group of travelers.”

Goldstein said Marriott International launched a Facebook game on Feb. 25 that runs through March 25 that offers daily prizes of tickets to see “42” and a chance to win an expenses-paid trip to the Los Angeles premiere on April 9.

“Our goals include driving membership, engagement and business for Marriott Rewards among a multicultural group of travelers,” Goldstein said.

Scheduled for release April 12th, “42” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.  The film also stars Harrison Ford as Brooklyn Dodgers’ general manager and president Branch Rickey and Nicole Beharie as Jackie’s wife, Rachel.

Marriott has a longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion and has strategic partnerships with organizations that share the same vision and goals.  The company was the first in the travel industry to establish a formal diversity and inclusion program in 1989 and the first to introduce a formal supplier diversity program in 1997.  These programs have expanded to support the communities where Marriott does business.
