⚡ Quick Summary

Key takeaways:

  • Members can earn up to 140 Status Credits a year through eligible everyday spending and partner activity.

  • Tiered members can roll over up to 50 per cent of excess Status Credits, within tier-specific caps.

  • Jetstar Classic Upgrades add another option for accessing Business Class with Qantas Points.

Qantas Frequent Flyer is preparing to roll out some of the biggest changes to its status program since launch, giving members new ways to earn and retain status beyond flying. From December 8, members will be able to earn up to 140 Status Credits each membership year through everyday activities such as using eligible Qantas Points-earning credit cards and shopping with partners including Everyday Rewards at Woolworths. Tiered members will also be able to roll over up to 50 percent of excess Status Credits into their next membership year, subject to tier-based caps. At the same time, Points Club and Green Tier will be retired, with further status changes — including simplified attain and retain requirements, new Silver benefits and Lifetime milestones — due in early 2027.

The changes extend to reward travel too. Jetstar Classic Upgrades are launching in September, allowing members to use a fixed number of Qantas Points to upgrade eligible Jetstar bookings to Business Class, including 37,000 points from Melbourne to Singapore and 45,300 points from Sydney to Osaka. The launch coincides with Jetstar expanding Business Class capacity on its refurbished Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Qantas is also strengthening the role of financial services in its loyalty ecosystem, with more than 30 points-earning credit cards remaining available and a select card set to offer Status Credits on Classic Reward seat bookings later this year.

Why it matters:

  • Members who don’t fly frequently can now make progress through activity on the ground.

  • Credit cards, shopping, and other partners will play a bigger role in determining loyalty benefits.

  • Qantas is shifting Frequent Flyer from a predominantly flight-focused program toward one that rewards members across travel, shopping, and financial services.
