Panera Bread Launches Geofence-Enabled Curbside Service

Panera Bread has announced it is looking to enhance its curbside service with the launch of Panera Curbside. The relaunch of Panera’s service is geofence-enabled and allows guests to more safely and efficiently get their meals served straight to their cars. After being one of the first restaurants to offer free Wi-Fi, the brand is now extending its free Wi-Fi radius beyond the doors of the bakery-café. Thanks to the addition of this geofencing, the restaurant will promptly be notified automatically when the guest arrives if they opt-in to this service.

To try and get customers out to try this service, now through May 31, the brand is offering guests who use Panera Curbside $5 off any $20 purchase. The customer must order online and use the code “CURBSIDE5” that can be used an unlimited amount of times during the period. However, it cannot be combined with another promotional offer.

“In these unprecedented times, people are missing life’s small comforts, like going out for a meal with family. While we prioritize safety and convenience, we hope that Panera Curbside can be a natural extension of the Panera warmth inside our bakery-cafes,” said Niren Chaudhary, Panera CEO in a Panera Bread news release. “In the new world, as it emerges, we are focused on how we can best serve our customers and meet them where they are. Our latest technology and Wi-Fi capabilities, combined with enhanced protective measures at bakery-cafes, make Panera Curbside a frictionless way to continue to enjoy the Panera experience you know and love.”

To use this service, when ordering the meal, choose Panera Curbside. Then, in the “Special Instructions,” name the make, model, and color of the car of the person is picking up the order. Then, lastly, the person needs to, as Panera’s press release says, “Park in the parking lot and for those who opt-in, we’ll bring your order out to your car upon arrival without any action needed. Those who don’t opt-in to the service just need to tap “I’m here” in the MyPanera app or order confirmation email upon arrival.”

Panera Bread has also worked to protect the safety of its employees and customers. It has started installing plexiglass barriers at cafes and drive-thrus, started requiring masks to be worn by all associates, hand sanitizer installed at each entryway, and improved cleaning and handwashing procedures for all employees.
