NBCUniversal Unveils New Streaming Service

NBCUniversal recently unveiled Peacock, “a free premium ad-supported streaming service with subscription tiers offering more than 600 movies and 400 series, as well as compelling live and on-demand content across news, sports, late night, and reality,” according to a company release. Peacock will offer tiered options that give consumers access across web, mobile and connected-TV devices. Peacock Free is a free, ad-supported option with more than 7,500 hours of programming, while Peacock Premium is bundled at no additional cost to 24 million Comcast and Cox subscribers. This option is available for $4.99 per month on all popular connected mobile and web devices for non-bundled customers.

Europe’s privacy overhaul has led to $126 million in fines – but regulators are just getting started

Since being implemented in May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has led to more than 160,000 data breach notifications across Europe, according to research from multinational law firm DLA Piper. These infractions are estimated to have generated 114 million euros ($126 million) in fines. Ross McKean, a partner at DLA Piper specializing in cyber and data protection, said the findings showed “we’re still in the very early days” of enforcement. It’s been about 20 months since the new rules were introduced.

Starbucks Expands Commitment in Underserved Communities in Partnership with United Way

Starbucks recently announced it will increase its commitment to open 100 Community Stores, an 85-store increase from 2015. These stores, which are aimed at providing economic opportunity in underserved rural and urban communities across the country, will “focus on hiring locally, creating dedicated space for communities to come together for events and working with diverse contractors for store construction and remodels,” Starbucks stated in a company release. Starbucks, which hopes to have this goal met by 2025, will evaluate multiple factors when choosing locations for Community Stores. Additionally, employees at Starbucks Community Stores will work with their local United Way chapter to provide resources and programs for their neighborhood using the store’s community space.

Louis Vuitton Sets NBA Partnership

According to WWD, Louis Vuitton has established a partnership with the NBA. Louis Vuitton has sent out a save-the-date for a cocktail event on Jan. 22 at its location on Avenue Montaigne in Paris. “Michael Burke, chairman and chief executive officer, Louis Vuitton is pleased to invite you to celebrate the new partnership between Louis Vuitton and NBA,” the invitation said. The first NBA regular season game in Paris – between the Charlotte Hornets and the Milwaukee Bucks – will be played at the AccorHotels Arena on Jan. 24.

7-Eleven, Inc. Announces Acquisition of Independently Operated 7-Eleven Stores in Oklahoma

7-Eleven, Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire 7‑Eleven Stores of central Oklahoma. This includes more than 100 7‑Eleven-branded locations – all in the greater Oklahoma City area – that have been independently operated for 67 years. The total number of 7‑Eleven stores in the United States and Canada now is more than 9,700. “Oklahoma has a growing economy, and this acquisition provides a great opportunity for us to expand regionally,” 7‑Eleven President and CEO Joe DePinto said in a company release.
