Delta CEO Ed Bastian’s Promises Elevated Customer Experience for SkyMiles Members
Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian recently rallied SkyMiles members through an email encouraging them to “seize the summer” while highlighting the airline’s latest initiatives to enhance the customer and travel experience. Bastian emphasized the unique energy of the upcoming summer travel season and expressed excitement for the adventures ahead, whether cheering on Team USA in Paris, exploring new destinations, or relaxing in a calm and quiet location.
The CEO noted that Delta has been actively improving its services, introducing enhancements like free Delta Sync Wi-Fi and the first-ever Delta One Lounges. He also hailed new international routes, including New York-JFK to Munich and Naples, Boston to Mexico City, and Seattle to Taipei. The airline is also expanding domestic services to popular vacation destinations like Reno-Tahoe and Santa Barbara. Furthermore, Delta has opened five new Sky Clubs and will soon debut its first Delta One Lounge at New York’s JFK. Delta Sync’s advanced seatback experience and the refreshed Fly Delta app, featuring an all-new Help Center and Virtual Assistant, will further enhance the travel journey for its customers. Additionally, the Delta Digital ID program allows SkyMiles members to navigate through security and check bags without a physical ID (available at select airports).
Bastian concluded his message by wishing members a joyful summer filled with memorable connections. He shared his personal excitement for family time with his grandson and expressed gratitude for the trust customers place in Delta to connect them with their loved ones and favorite destinations.

Walmart Bets on the Metaverse with Launch of a New 3D E-commerce Platform “Realm”
Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart unveiled its Realm platform, a 3D E-commerce venture. Picture a ‘90s shopping mall transformed into a vibrant, digital world, and the result is Walmart’s Realm. The platform allows users to shop for digital versions of select products sold in physical Walmart stores. The platform features virtual bazaars designed as whimsical worlds, including “So Jelly,” an underwater universe; “Y’allternative,” a fusion of the Wild West and Gothic aesthetics; and “Go Chromatic,” a metallic realm set in space. Customers can access Realm on mobile or a desktop, and shopping is as easy as clicking on the objects they want—adding them to their carts and then clicking a checkout link that will take them to Walmart’s website.
“We’re really in a place of testing and learning to inform a future state of immersive commerce because we believe that it is going to be the future of commerce,” said Justin Breton, Walmart’s Director of Brand Experiences and Strategic Partnerships. “It’s not going to replace a website or our app, but it will be complementary.”
Realm isn’t Walmart’s first metaverse initiative. In 2022, the retailer ventured into virtual spaces like Fortnite and Roblox, as well as experiences like Walmart Land and Walmart Universe. Unlike those experiences, Walmart Realm operates independently, built on Emperia, which has created digital stores for major retailers like Boss and Bloomingdale’s. Walmart Realm targets Gen Z consumers and hopes to leverage its social media followings, which include more than 11 million on TikTok, to entice new fans to Walmart’s metaverse offerings. Influencers will promote Realm-related content to drive traffic and engagement on the platform. Breton is confident about expanding Walmart’s e-commerce to other platforms like Fortnite and Minecraft.
