Deloitte’s Survey Expects More Summer Travel for Americans
According to Deloitte’s latest summer travel survey, more Americans are planning to travel in 2025 compared to previous years, but many are opting for shorter, less expensive trips due to ongoing economic concerns. While the desire to travel remains strong, financial pressures such as inflation and economic uncertainty are prompting travelers to adjust their plans. This has led to a trend of scaled-back vacations, with many choosing domestic destinations and road trips over international travel.
The survey also indicates that Americans who plan to use GenAi to book their trips rose to 15% this year, and nearly 23% of Americans plan to work remotely during their summer trips. Airline spending has decreased by 11% year-over-year, and more travelers are using reward points instead of cash to book flights. These changes indicate a broader shift toward more economical travel choices among middle and working-class Americans.
Despite these adjustments, the overall enthusiasm for summer travel remains high. Many Americans are still eager to take vacations, even if they are shorter and closer to home. The use of flexible booking options and reward points suggests that travelers are finding wats to adapt to economic challenges without forgoing travel altogether. This resilience in travel planning highlights the importance of vacations for many Americans, even in the face of financial constraints.
