Nordstrom Reports Loyalty Program and In-Store Events Drive Customer Loyalty and Sales Growth
Nordstrom released its first quarter fiscal 2024 financial results, showing a net sales increase of more than 5% year over year. Meanwhile, the retailer’s digital sales have increased for the fourth consecutive quarter and account for 34% of its total sales. Nordstrom leverages in-person events to complement its digital loyalty program and boost customer engagement and sales.
“Our Nordy Club loyalty program events and offerings have been well received by customers,” said CEO Erik Nordstrom. “During the first quarter, sales to Nordy Club members grew at both banners, with loyalty sales reaching nearly 70 percent of our total sales.”
In-store events, including Nordstrom’s “Make Room for Shoes” campaign, “fragrance week,” and “happy hour beauty parties,” have been well-received by customers. The events offer personalized experiences and attract more customers to physical stores. Nordstrom also enhanced search and discovery for its digital platform, offered more expedited shipment, and launched a digital marketplace to bolster its omnichannel strategy. According to a PYMNTS 2024 Global Digital Shopping Index: U.S. Edition study, 56% of consumers will engage with a brand digitally during their shopping journey.

Short Guide: American Express Membership Rewards in 2024
The American Express credit card is a symbol of prestige for many consumers. However, travel rewards, whereby a consumer pays for their trips with credit card points, are fast becoming a favorite among frequent fliers looking for more value in their travel experiences. American Express offers five reward cards for individual consumers who fly for personal reasons.
The Amex Membership Rewards program is a versatile credit card rewards system where spending with qualifying American Express cards earns points that can be redeemed for statement credits, gift cards, travel expenses, or transferred to 21 partner loyalty programs, including Hilton Honors and Delta SkyMiles. The card company partners with almost two dozen hotel and airline partners to facilitate points transfers between American Express and its partner network. Typically, points are worth between 0.6 and 1 cent each, with travel redemptions offering a better value than cashback rewards. The points never expire, and new cardholders can earn a welcome bonus of up to 60,000 points or more with some cards, such as the American Express Platinum and Gold Cards.
Co-branded cards offer points for specific hotel points or airline miles, such as the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card. Typically, the card is a partnership between companies, with points exchanged between the two.
The non-co-branded American Express cards currently earning Membership Rewards Points are:
-
The Platinum Card® from American Express
-
American Express® Gold Card
-
American Express® Green Card
-
Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express
-
Amex EveryDay® Credit Card
The Centurion Card, also known as the Amex Black card, earns points but is invitation-only and has a $5,000 annual fee.
