Hertz Updates Gold Plus Rewards Program
Hertz car rental is unveiling some changes to its Gold Plus Rewards loyalty program aimed at improving the customer experience for frequent customers and giving them more flexibility in managing their points. On September 1, 2024, the company began implementing a new cancellation policy, allowing customers to cancel reservations without being imposed a fee. Should a member cancel their booking, any points used to establish their reservation will be credited back to their account. The new policy allows Gold Plus Rewards members to change their itinerary at the last minute without risking their points.
In addition to the cancellation policy change, Hertz is altering the expiration rules for Gold Plus Rewards points. Currently, points expire after 12 months of account inactivity. However, beginning December 31, 2024, points will expire five years after they are earned, whether or not a member has had any rental activity during that time.
As part of its partnership with Virgin Australia, Hertz allows Velocity Gold frequent flyer members to receive complimentary Five Star status and Velocity Platinum members to access the top-tier President’s Circle in the Gold Plus Rewards program. These updates are expected to enhance the overall rewards experience for loyal customers.

Cava’s Upgraded Loyalty Program Going National in October
After a successful pilot program in Texas and the Carolinas, Cava is launching an upgraded loyalty program across the United States in October. According to Cava CEO Brett Schulman, the new loyalty program launch is slightly ahead of schedule and offers multiple reward options customers can choose from its menu. Schulman added on an earnings call that he anticipates the new program will “significantly grow first-party data and help us create more frequent, relevant experiences that drive traffic, mix, and check.”
Last year, the Meditteranean fast-casual restaurant chain moved toward a points-based loyalty program. Previously, the program was transaction-based. With the upgraded program, members can earn 10 points for every dollar they spend at Cava while being able to load store credit and other discounts to their accounts.
Loyalty program members can move through several tiers for higher rewards. For example, drinks start at 400 points, while entrees can be redeemed at 1,850 points. While the upgraded program is based on the test program, it does have some minor alterations with regard to rewards. Schulman said, “This will be the first phase of a multi-phase initiative where we’ll layer on new and exciting rewards in the months to come.”

The Marble Slab concept was brought to Houston, Texas, 40 years ago, while the first Canadian store opened in 2003. Since then, more than 100 locations have opened up across Canada, including stores in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, with plans to add 40-plus more franchises.
The new loyalty program will make it easier for customers to receive special offers and earn and redeem rewards.
