Walmart Introduces Up to $1,000 Annual Bonuses for Hourly Employees
Walmart announced that its part-time and full-time hourly associates can now earn up to $1,000 in annual bonuses. The amount each employee is eligible to receive will depend on how long they’ve been working for the company. Employees who have been with the retailer longer are likely to earn higher bonuses. Additionally, Walmart is spotlighting its learning and development initiatives, such as a new pilot program in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to train 100 associates for technician roles in refrigeration, HVAC, and more.
“For Walmart to be the best place to shop, we also need it to be the best place to work,” John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart U.S., and Lo Stomski, Walmart’s senior VP and Chief Talent Officer, stated jointly in a June 5 announcement. “These investments are all part of our people-led, tech-powered commitment to Walmart associates.”
Walmart shifted its policies over the past three years. In 2021, the company ended its quarterly bonus program for store associates and opted instead for higher hourly wages. While Walmart raised its minimum wage to $14 per hour in 2023, it later reversed the increase. Also, at the beginning of 2024, Walmart increased the average salary for store managers by $11,000 to $128,000 a year, citing that a manager who meets all targets could receive bonuses as much as 200% of their base salary.
