Loyalty360 Reads: July 14: BMW Heated Seats Subscription, Walmart E-Commerce Delivery Low-Emissions Electric Vans, and More

BMW to Offer Paid Heated Seat Subscriptions
BMW is now selling subscriptions for heated seats in a number of countries — the latest example of the company’s adoption of microtransactions for high-end car features.

A monthly subscription to heat your BMW’s front seats has options to subscribe for one year, three years, or “unlimited” access. BMW has slowly been putting features behind subscriptions since 2020, and heated seats subs are now available in BMW’s digital stores in UK, Germany, New Zealand and South Africa.

Walmart Partners with Cannoo Electric Vehicles
Walmart has agreed to purchase 4500 Cannoo electric delivery vehicles, as the retail giant looks to bolster its e-commerce delivery service with a fleet powered by electricity. Walmart has an option to purchase up to 10,000 of Cannoo’s all-electric delivery vehicles.

The delivery vans are optimized for last-mile delivery and will be used to fulfill online orders, including groceries and general merchandise, while helping push the company to reach its goal of achieving zero-emissions by 2040.

Hardee’s Enlists Richard Petty as Spokesperson
Hardee’s has partnered with NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty to surprise customers at a Charlotte-area Hardee’s location. The celebrity race car driver will be handing out the brand’s Hand-Breaded Chicken Sandwich to ordering customers. Petty said it was actually he who approached Hardee’s about doing a promotion with them.

The promotion is part of marketing efforts by Hardee’s around the Hand-Breaded Chicken platform that launched last year.  Also, as part of the marketing efforts, members of the My Rewards loyalty program who order one of the sandwiches will be offered a second sandwich for one dollar. New My Reward members are being offered a free chicken sandwich for signing up.
