McDonald’s Canada Updating Mobile Rewards Program
McDonald’s Canada updated its McCafé Mobile Rewards program, changing the name to McDonald’s Rewards, and adding french fries as a reward. Canadian McDonald’s customers can collect and earn rewards. There is a reward after seven qualifying purchases, and that purchase can be any size hot beverage, other than espresso, and now any size fries.
“Contactless order and payment options are even more important to our guests today in light of ongoing COVID-19 concerns,” says Lara Skripitsky, vice president and chief technology officer, McDonald’s Canada. “Using the McDonald’s app not only gives our guests a personalized experience and more convenience, but also can provide peace of mind when ordering their next McDonald’s meal.”
Original ChopShop’s Launches New App
According to QSR Magazine, Original ChopShop announced a new app as well as internal delivery that will launch Aug. 11 and allow customers to order ahead and skip the line, or get their food delivered. The new loyalty app gives users points for every purchase, and then use those points on different rewards like a free cookie or 16-ounce tea.
“By adding internal delivery and a loyalty App, we have made two major enhancements to our online/digital ordering experience,” Jason Morgan, CEO of Original ChopShop, told the magazine. “In business, there is a saying that ‘among speed, price and quality, you can only achieve two at any given time.’ However, we have found a way to offer all three with the implementation of these new initiatives.”

Welcome to the Shake Shack of the Future
Shake Shack unveiled a prototype for its first drive-thru location in its history that it plans to launch next year, according to QSR Magazine. The drive-thru is alongside a new Shake Shack model called “Shake Track,” which are digitally-enabled pickup windows. While the former won’t launch until next year, the brand is installing the latter into at least eight restaurants over the coming months.
“In the moment of safety, people want to stay in their cars,” Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti says in the article. “That's not going to last forever. But obviously, this country has proven that the drive-thru in its old form works. We want to do in this new form. We want to do it better than ever with an experience that you stay in whichever drive-thru you want.”
