“DG GO!” Begins Pilot Testing at Dollar General
Scan and go is the hot new trend amongst retailers. Now, the trend will be coming to Dollar General. This week, Dollar General announced their new “DG GO!” scan and go app that will be piloted in 10 Nashville locations. The app enables shoppers to scan items as they shop and then use a self-checkout to pay. Along with the self-checkout, the app also provides a total of what shoppers have in their baskets. Along with the ease in customer experience, the app also digitally applies coupons so customers can save money as they checkout. If the app is successful, Dollar General will rule it out in 100 more locations in the second quarter.

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Expand
The brand, which opened in 1963, announced this week this it will be tripling the number of stores it has in the United States by 2028. 75 percent of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s stores are in Asia, making it unlike most coffee chains in the US. With 1,200 stores across 30 different countries, the storewide expansion in the US comes at a time where there are spots opening within the market. With Starbucks announcing it will be closing 150 stores in 2019, the coffee market in the United States is relatively open to expansion by new chains. It will be interesting to see if other brands continue on the same path as Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, or if the brand will be the only one to attempt the expansion.
