Food Lion Expands Grocery Pick-Up

We’ve been discussing the customer experience in grocery retail a lot lately with leading marketers in the space. It’s clear that new service options like pick-up and delivery will be growing rapidly in coming months and years. These services appeal to a broad range of demographics, from millennials accustomed to ultra-convenience to seniors who benefit from a helping hand. Now, one of our members is expanding its program to offer a convenient grocery experience.

Food Lion is continuing to increase the availability of its “Food Lion To-Go” grocery pick-up service at 50 stores in Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. The expansions began on October 14 and will continue in coming months. In addition, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at each location on October 14. To help introduce customers to this new service, Food Lion offered shoppers their first pickup for free.

The launch of this new, convenient service enables Food Lion to continue to deliver on its promise to ensure an easy, fresh, and affordable grocery shopping experience. It also enables customers to order and pick up their groceries in as little as an hour.

“We are so excited to expand this convenient service to more stores in the Food Lion footprint and enable customers to spend more time on what matters most to them,” says Deborah Sabo, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Food Lion. “With the Food Lion To-Go service, our associates become personal shoppers and are able to hand pick the freshest produce and best cuts of meat, just as they would for their own family. We look forward to continuing to nourish our neighbors with this new convenient service.”

Food Lion wants to give local residents the option to shop through the channel they prefer: in-store or online. The company continues to expand this new service in the towns and cities it serves, highlighting Food Lion’s commitment to making grocery shopping easy and personable.

With the click of a button, Food Lion To-Go enables customers to experience the same low prices and fresh food items without having to ever enter a store. The online service lets customers fill a virtual cart with the grocery items they need and schedule a pick-up time that works for their schedule. In this way, the company fulfills part of its mission, the “easy” in “easy, fresh, and affordable.”
