Uber Collaborates with Mastercard and Payfare for the Uber Pro Card in Canada

Ride-hailing company Uber has announced a partnership with Mastercard and Payfare to launch the Uber Pro Card in Canada. The card was designed to cater to the needs of Uber drivers and delivery workers and will be available through mobile wallets. The card will facilitate contactless payments and cardholders can track earnings, manage savings, transfer funds, and earn exclusive rewards in a central mobile platform. Uber plans to introduce the card by offering instant free access to its gig workers’ earnings following each delivery.

General Manager of Mobility for Uber Canada, Michael van Hemmen, said, “At Uber, we look to support drivers and delivery people with flexible options to access their earnings. Through our partnership with Mastercard and Payfare, the new Uber Pro Card will enable drivers and delivery people to make the most of their earnings through exclusive cashback rewards.”

“App-based workers, including drivers and delivery people on Uber, play an integral part in our economy, and they require flexible financial products to meet their unique needs,” stated Balinder Ahluwalia, Senior Vice President, Market Development, Mastercard in Canada.

The San Francisco-based ride-sharing company will also offer enhanced loyalty perks for the platform’s drivers and delivery people, with the chance to earn up to 4% cash back on gas and up to 8% on EV charging. The Uber Pro Card also has a Backup Balance feature that allows users to access up to $50, which can be helpful for gig workers and allow them more financial flexibility. The extra features are powered by Payfare’s digital banking app and platform.

CEO and Founding Partner of Payfare, Marco Margiotta, stated, “Uber is our longest-tenured app-based platform partner, and we are pleased to expand our partnership with the all-new Uber Pro Card in Canada. Free instant access to earnings and tailored incentives for gig workers help our cardholders every day while also benefiting our app-based platform partners with increased engagement of drivers and delivery people."

Carhartt Donating Up to $250,000 in Honor of International Women’s Day

Workwear brand Carhartt announced it will donate up to $250,000 from its women’s clothing sales on March 8, 2024, to support its Spring 2024 “For the Love of Labor” grant and the All Within My Hands Metallica Foundation and Metallica Scholars initiative, which connects future workers with community trade programs. The donations will also help women who are pursuing skilled trade careers.

SVP of Inclusion, Sustainability, and Community at Carhartt, Todd Corley, stated, “Every woman opting for a rewarding career in the skilled workforce is not only contributing to the industries they serve but also actively challenging outdated stereotypes that often hold back talented individuals from pursuing their passions. By combining efforts with All Within My Hands, we aim to help break down barriers for women in the trades, which include fewer job education programs tailored for women, limited childcare options, and a general lack of resources that exacerbate the gender inequity within many industries, to cultivate the next generation of workers making their own history.”

Metallica Scholars collaborates with the American Association of Community Colleges to further career and technical education programs at the community level. The program is in its fifth year, and it has invested more than $6M to help nearly 6,000 students. It has also supported 42 community colleges in 33 states. According to the Executive Director of All Within My Hands, Peter Delgrosso, approximately 30% of Metallica Scholars have been women.
