American Airlines is Turning Free Wi-Fi into a Loyalty Opportunity
American Airlines is seeing strong growth in its AAdvantage program, with new-member acquisition reportedly up 30% year over year, as View From the Wing notes. One factor is the airline’s requirement that passengers have an AAdvantage account to access free onboard Wi-Fi, giving American a direct connection with more travelers and potentially creating a pipeline for its lucrative cobranded credit card business. But simply adding members doesn’t necessarily translate into loyalty: the bigger opportunity is turning those new relationships into ongoing engagement through relevant rewards, personalized experiences and reasons to keep choosing the airline, according to View From the Wing. That makes the effectiveness of American’s broader loyalty strategy—not just the size of its membership base—an important measure of whether those Wi-Fi-driven sign-ups ultimately deliver lasting value.

Travel Code Brings Loyalty Points into Corporate Flight Search
Travel Code has launched a new rewards booking feature designed to help companies put accumulated loyalty points to work when employees travel, as Business Travel News reports. The module integrates points from corporate airline accounts, credit card rewards, and employees’ personal frequent-flyer programs into the flight-search experience, allowing travelers to compare award options with paid fares and book through the account holding the points. By surfacing these balances during trip planning, the platform aims to help travel managers capture potential savings while reducing the risk of valuable points going unused or expiring. Travel Code is currently enrolling companies in a free pilot of the feature, with loyalty technology providers helping supply award availability and account balance data, according to Business Travel News.
