Uber Rewards is Eliminating a Key Redemption Option

Uber has announced it is getting rid of the $5 Uber Cash reward option after the current rewards cycle ends.

According to the above article in the Points Guy, “An Uber spokesperson reached out to TPG to clarify that this decision was not tied to the company’s financial position and provided the following statement: “After thoughtful consideration, we made the decision to sunset the $5 Uber Cash benefit in the U.S. starting in late 2019. Users told us that Uber Cash was a less popular option for every 500 points earned and that they wanted more choice, which is why we expanded to include ride and Eats discounts, partner benefits like access to Apple News, free food items, and a large focus on donations per these challenging times. We remain committed to Uber Rewards and recognizing riders for choosing our service.”

Google and Walmart Establish Dominance in India’s Mobile Payments Market as WhatsApp Pay Struggles to Launch

According to Tech Crunch, Google’s Google Pay and Walmart’s PhonePe have established dominance in India on mobile payment markets. While Google Pay and PhonePe had 75 million users and 60 million, respectively, SoftBank-backed Paytm had only 30 million transacting users.

“We are the company that cherishes innovation and technology that can transform the lives of millions. We understand the importance of financial technology, and for this very reason, we have always been the champion and supporter of UPI. We, however, launched it on Paytm later than our peers because it took a little longer for us to get the approval to start UPI based services,” a spokesperson said in the above Tech Crunch article.
