Subway's Expands Globally, Refreshes App and Loyalty Program

Subway is rapidly expanding its global footprint through a series of strategic master franchise agreements. The company has signed more than 20 agreements in just three years, committing to more than 10,000 future Subway openings. This represents more than 40% of the brand’s new locations in 2024. As part of its global strategy, Subway is partnering with experienced multiunit operators to adapt its menu and operations to the needs of new markets, including countries like Paraguay and Mongolia. The brand’s focus on collaboration ensures flexibility and market-specific innovation.

In August 2023, private equity firm Roark Capital acquired Subway in a deal estimated to be worth nearly $9.55 billion, marking a significant transition for the 37,000-location chain. After that, Subway revamped its loyalty program, introducing a tiered MVP Rewards system in the U.S. and Canada to increase customer engagement. The new program was influenced by consumer feedback and offers more rewards based on spending levels.

Subway is also prioritizing digital transformation to streamline operations and improve customer convenience. Mike Kehoe, Subway’s global chief development officer, said, “In North America, we’ve made significant digital investments over the last year by refreshing our app, loyalty program, and catering business, with a focus on delivering added convenience and a better experience for guests.” Kehoe added, “In key European markets, we’re rolling out the next phase of our digital experience with a refreshed app and loyalty program, as well as self-order kiosks in select restaurants.” Kehoe added that the chain also plans to remodel as part of its transformation journey. “A new, modernized look improves guest perception and reenergizes franchisees and their teams.”
