Loyalty360 Reads: August 11: Walmart to Add Streaming Service, Chick-fil-A’s Scholarship Program, and More

Walmart Explores Adding Video Streaming Subscription
Walmart has had talks recently with Disney, Comcast and Paramount about adding streaming services to its Walmart+ membership program. The retailer is looking to add a large video streaming service to its membership program as it competes with Amazon.  Walmart is looking to partner with Disney, Comcast or Paramount, as those three companies look to expand their distribution as the competition for subscribers intensifies.

The membership services are just one of the ways in which Walmart and Amazon are competing. After buying Whole Foods, Amazon has rolled out its own physical stores and pushed into pharmacy services. Walmart has been rolling out grocery delivery services and building its own health clinics. The company also has been trying to expand its digital business.

Chick-fil-A Announces Scholarship Program
Chick-fil-A announced applications are open for its newest education initiative, Chick-fil-A Community Scholars. This new scholarship program will award 12 scholarships of $25,000 annually to community service-minded leaders, helping them pursue their goals through furthering their education.

Recipients will also have the opportunity to participate in a one-year leadership development program. Applicants must demonstrate academic success, devotion to community service and financial need.

Southeastern Grocers Launches Back-to-School Donation Program
Southeastern Grocers announced a community donation program to benefit public schools throughout the Southeast. The program continues the grocer’s commitment to support creative, inclusive environments for students to grow and thrive during the new school year.

Shoppers are encouraged to round up their grocery bill to be donated directly to the store’s local school. This commitment to foster children's education, development and wellness will provide support inside and outside the classroom, including job opportunities to shape and empower future leaders. The fundraiser is in addition to the grocer’s “Break from Hunger” program that provides accessible, healthy meal options to ensure no child goes hungry.
