Giant Food Announces $1.5M Relief Donation During Coronavirus Pandemic
 
Giant Food announced the donation of $1.55 million to help those communities in need. These funds will be distributed out to multiple organizations, which are as follows:
 

  • $550,000 and 1,200 hams will be given to Giant’s five local Feeding America food banks, which are Capital Area Food, Maryland Food Bank, Food Bank of Delaware, Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
  • $500,000 to Johns Hopkins University to help Coronavirus response efforts, patient care and research for those working to understand the virus and find a cure.
  • $500,000 given to local nonprofits throughout Giant’s communities including Save the Children and No Kids Hungry, Meals on Wheels, Blessings in a Backpack, Boys & Girls Club and Martha’s Table.
 
"Our nonprofit partners are under extraordinary pressure right now and need everyone's support to continue their vital services," said Ira Kress, Interim President of Giant, in a Giant Food press release. "We're here to assist them in any way that we can during this unprecedented situation, and we hope that our customers will join us in giving back and helping their neighbors in need."
 
Hasbro Launches BringHometheFun.com to Support Families Staying Indoors
 
Hasbro has launched a new resource, BringHometheFun.com, that allows families to stay occupied with activities. Some of the are crafts using PLAY-DOH, different challenges to get kids to stay active with NERF equipment, content pertaining to TRANSFORMERS and MY LITTLE PONY, as well as others. This website also features videos and other resources to help children and families with possible unusual amount of stress due to the virus.
 
“We’ve been incredibly inspired and heartened to see that so many of our brands, such as Play-Doh, Monopoly, and Nerf, are providing relief and comfort to both parents and children adjusting to the new normal of extended time at home,” said Eric Nyman in a Hasbro press release, Chief Consumer Officer, Hasbro. “Many of us are parents, grandparents, and caregivers ourselves, and we hope Bring Home the Fun will help families and friends around the world, and create moments of joy, laughter, and play in a time when we need connection more than ever.”
 
7-Eleven Donates 1 Million Masks to FEMA in Response to COVID-19 Pandemic
 
7-Eleven has donated 1 million health care masks to FEMA to help the medical professionals continue their life-saving work combatting the virus. Hospitals are seeing shortages of personal protective equipment like masks and gloves because of the exorbitant amount of cases of the virus.
 
"7-Eleven is a brand that cares deeply about the people and communities in which we operate, particularly the first responders and the medical community who put their lives on the line for us every day," said 7-Eleven President and Chief Executive Officer Joe DePinto in a 7-Eleven press release. "When we heard shortages of masks were becoming a serious issue in hospitals, we felt it was our responsibility to respond and help."
 
The unused masks donated to FEMA were to be used by franchisees and employees to serve those in the store, and 7-Eleven has donated all of their remaining inventory of said masks to the health organization.
 
Walgreens and Postmates Expand On-Demand Delivery Service to 7,000 Stores Nationwide*
 
Due to the virus and need to stay home, Walgreens and Postmates have expanded their on-demand delivery service to over 7,000 Walgreens stores nationwide. Thanks to this expansion, customers in cities nationwide are able to get health and wellness items, such as over-the-counter medication and other home essentials they need delivered instead of having to leave their homes. To order the available items, customers should visit Postmates.com or download the app.
 
“During these challenging times, our customers need alternate options to get the essential products they need,” said Walgreens President, Richard Ashworth. “By expanding our delivery service collaboration with Postmates, more customers can get what they need, delivered on-demand, at their doorstep. Because of Postmates’ non-contact delivery options for certain items, Postmates drivers will leave deliveries on doorsteps, keeping these transactions completely contact-less, with no personal interaction required.”

Tropical Smoothie Café Aims to Donate 100K Smoothies
 
Tropical Smooth Café has announced that it has a goal of donating 100,000 smoothies across the country to healthcare workers and first responders. This is part of the restaurant chain’s #InItTogether campaign that helps support workers on the front lines of the Coronavirus crisis. To reach this goal, each café will work to donate at least 100 smoothies.
