Although loyalty programs have long been effective tools for driving consumer engagement and spend, launching them across diverse global markets presents unique challenges. Cultural norms, financial customs, spending behaviors, and preferences can vary tremendously from one region to the next. Companies must navigate these differences deftly, designing loyalty initiatives that resonate locally while still achieving global scale.

To understand the regional nuances that inform consumer relationships with credit card loyalty programs, WillowTree conducted a comprehensive survey spanning five major global regions: Asia– Pacific, Europe, Middle East–Africa, North America, and South America. Our survey framework explored personal, cultural, and financial factors impacting loyalty program perceptions and preferences, as well as current loyalty program experiences and desired qualities in loyalty programs generally (we enumerate all these findings by region in the Regional Analyses section of this report).
