In 1962, Glen Bell opened his first Taco Bell restaurant in Downey, CA, delighting customers with what they called “Tay-Kohs.” By the mid-1960s, the brand began to offer franchising opportunities, and before the decade was over, the 100th restaurant was opened in Anaheim, CA. In the 10 years following, Taco Bell went public before it was eventually acquired by PepsiCo Inc. Today, the brand is owned by the American multinational fast-food corporation Yum! Brands, Inc.
