Orbitz has announced it is launching a program to help give back to travelers staying at home instead of traveling during the pandemic. Orbitz launched this program with the website, Orbitz.com/stayathome, Tuesday, May 5, 2020. It is available to any Orbitz Rewards member, even new members.
To take advantage of this offer, the first step is visiting the Orbitz landing page mentioned above. The first 1,000 people that visit the website as well as enter the number of days they have stayed home and the kind of activities they’ve done in that time will receive $100 from Orbitz. That $100 can be used on a future hotel booking from any of the brand’s partners.
However, this isn’t the only offer from Orbitz. According to Business Insider, the brand is allowing people to register any credit or debit card in their Dining Rewards program to get five percent back in Orbucks for getting take out or delivery. People can also earn Orbitz Rewards booking travel in the future with Orbitz online or on their app.
“COVID-19 has forced many of us to miss vacations, work trips, family gatherings and so many other milestones in our everyday lives,” says Carey Malloy, brand director at Orbitz, in a Business Insider article. “While we’d normally reward our members for going places, this extraordinary situation calls for us all to stay home right now as much as we can. So that’s what we’re doing: rewarding you for going nowhere.”
Orbitz has also done a lot to make sure people know the brand is thinking about its customers. For those that had lodging and flights booked, the brand said it would email those customers to ask whether they would like to cancel them or not. For the lodging, this was bookings between March 20, 2020, and April 20, 2020.
The brand also says it recommends booking refundable hotels rather than hotels that are not refundable. It also suggests, on its website, you “check the fine print, especially when purchasing flights. Depending on what type of fare you choose, changes may either not be an option or could potentially incur a hefty fee. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of your ticket before making any purchases.”
