Southeastern Grocers Pledges 1M+ Meals in Hunger Action Month
Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), the parent company of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie, is pledging more than one million meals to families in need during Hunger Action Month.
Through its SEG Gives Foundation, the company will contribute $1 to Feeding America® for each Winn-Dixie Rewards or Harveys app download, up to $100,000. Every dollar provides 10 meals to hungry families in local communities. In addition to app-based contributions, SEG is donating $70,000 to seven Feeding America partner food banks and hosting seven mobile food distribution events throughout September. These events will deliver more than 105,000 pounds of essential groceries and fresh produce to individuals and families in need.
Southeastern Grocers Chief People Officer Raymond Rhee said, “We know that no one can thrive on an empty stomach, and at Southeastern Grocers, we are dedicated to working toward a future where families do not go hungry. As a local grocer, we believe it is our responsibility to nourish our communities and empower neighbors to live their happiest, healthiest lives. Through our long-standing partnership with Feeding America and our award-winning Rewards program, we are proudly taking action to ensure that access to wholesome food is within reach for neighbors across the Southeast.”
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one in seven Americans experience food insecurity. Feeding America sponsors Hunger Action Month each September to increase awareness of the nationwide hunger crisis.
