Natural Grocers Releases 2021 Trends
Natural Grocers has announced its fifth annual Top 10 Nutrition Trends predictions, according to a press release. The company’s Nutrition Education team is made up of health and wellness experts ranging from Registered Dietitians to natural food chefs. The team collaborated with Natural Grocers’ buyers and analysts, studied consumer-shopping preferences, and took into account the impact of COVID-19 in order to create the list.
“Our trends this year are dramatically different than previous years’ in that they’re far less fleeting. COVID-19 is a pandemic that sits on top of another pandemic in the United States of malnutrition and poor long-term health,” remarked Shelby Miller, MS, Natural Grocers’ Manager of Scientific Affairs and Nutrition Education, in the press release. “Hence, 2021 holds broader trends that focus on improving nutrition to support our own health, as well as the health of our communities and our environment.”

Capital One Halts Buy-Now-Pay-Later Credit Card Transactions
CFO.com reports that Capital One Financial is no longer allowing customers to use its credit cards to pay off buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) debt, making it the first major card company to turn its back on the lucrative segment.
In an emailed statement to Reuters, the company said it would bar transactions identified as point-of-sale loans, regardless of the point-of-sale lender. “These kinds of transactions can be risky for customers and the banks that serve them,” a spokesperson for the company said.
BNPL companies, which charge merchants a commission rather than charging buyers interest, are less regulated than consumer credit laws in most countries. The segment has seen a surge in use as COVID-19 prompts more online shopping. The Australian BNPL company Afterpay reported $742 million in sales in November an increase of 300% year-over-year.

The retailer has expanded some of the pickup and delivery options from its own stores as well. Curbside pickup is available both before and after regular shopping hours, the company said, and for same-day services, customers can now check out as late as 3:00 p.m. local time and receive their orders by 9:00 p.m.
