New UnitedHealthcare App Increases Customer Engagement

Unitedhealthcare customer engagement UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group company, is launching a new mobile app to better engage its customers and enable Medicare supplement insurance plan members to access their health plan information anytime, anywhere.

Enhancing customer engagement is one of the main factors behind the app’s launch.

Brad Hunt, Chief Marketing Officer for UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare business told Loyalty360 that UnitedHealthcare’s mission is to help people live healthier lives.

“And an important part of that is partnering with our members and giving them easy access to their health plan information,” Hunt explained. “As older adults increasingly use technology, including smartphones, in their daily lives, we wanted to be proactive about offering members of AARP Medicare Supplement Plans, insured by UnitedHealthcare, a convenient way to access their plan information anytime, anywhere through their iPhone or Android phone.”

Hunt said the company hopes to improve its member satisfaction by offering another way for AARP Medicare Supplement Plan members to review their benefits, claims, payment status, and more.

“With the addition of the app, members can now access their plan information through numerous channels – for example, they can call customer service, review a hard copy of their plan benefits, view the information online, or on their phone,” Hunt said. “We’re hopeful that enabling members to access plan information in their channel of choice will translate into an overall better member experience.”

To design the app, UnitedHealthcare considered how its members were using the existing online member portal, and also leveraged a variety of insights from member surveys and third-party research.

“In addition, we collaborated with our colleagues who have built other mobile apps for UnitedHealthcare members to learn about best practices in design and user experience,” Hunt added.

The app enables people enrolled in an AARP® Medicare Supplement Plan insured by UnitedHealthcare to:

Review the benefits summary of their current and past plans;

Track when and how claims were processed;

Confirm the amount of their next month’s premium payment and see a history of past payments; and

Contact a customer service representative with the tap of a finger.

The AARP Supplemental Health Insurance Plan mobile app is available for free to iPhone® and Android® smartphone users in the Apple App Store and through Google Play. Plan members must be registered at MyAARPMedicare.com to access their account information through the app.
