At the Loyalty360 CX Awards, part of the 2015 Engagement and Experience Expo, brands presented their customer experience innovations across six categories. Virginie Glaenzer, EVP of Marketing for Great Eastern Energy, offered a peek into her company’s efforts to engage employees and create a family atmosphere within the company.

Due to its team-building activities and overall familial workplace culture, GEE earned Silver honors in the Best Employee Engagement category at the Loyalty360 CX Awards.

To kick off the company’s engagement efforts, employees were asked to read a book titled, “The Energy Bus.” As team members read, they took part in organized discussions and activities to expand on the book’s message of positive thinking. At the conclusion of the book, Glaenzer said, the CEO passed out personalized tickets to each employee that welcomed them “onto the bus.”

Great Eastern Energy searches for ideas at every level of the company.

The best example of this philosophy is found in its “CEO of the Day” program. At every companywide meeting, two employees are selected to work as a team and come up with an idea to improve the company in some way and connect business objectives with brand values. These ideas are brought before the organization and often implemented in some way. One of the most popular ideas to come out of CEO of the Day was open-registration yoga classes.Great Eastern Energy Employee Engagement

In another program designed to create a positive workplace atmosphere, semi-monthly yoga classes were made available to all employees during a six-month period. Beyond the yoga pillars of exercising and thinking positively, team members benefited from time dedicated to openly share thoughts and feelings about working for Great Eastern Energy.

The company boasts a 93% employee retention rate, but Glaenzer said that the biggest impact can be seen by just wandering the office.

“There have been fewer people out sick, employees are more punctual, and there is noticeably less stress in meetings,” Glaenzer told Expo attendees.

GEE has encouraged a working environment unlike any other, and employee engagement has skyrocketed as a result.
